Recently I have been blog obsessed and reading several blogs. Reading about other peoples lives sound like soap opera the only difference is it’s a reality. Yet I recently read a blog that inspired me to write about my top favorite television shows sprinkled in with an honorable mention and a disappointment show of the season. So let’s get the list started:
Top Shows
1) Friday Night Lights – The other shows on this list are not listed in any particular order but this is truly my number one. Personally I believe it is one of the most realistic dramas on television, it features a low key cast with incredible performances by the entire ensemble. The Texas tradition of the high school football madness is not the main focus on this drama. It confuses me how people have not latched onto this show, the writing is brilliant, the relationships you build with the characters on this show reminds you of personal issues. I urge everyone to watch this master piece featured on television, the book was incredible, the movie received good reviews, but the show takes it to another level.
2) Rescue Me – Despite the drama being over the top and a little unrealistic the writing makes this a must see show. It provides the audience with drama and comedy; it is entertaining with a lot of craziness mixed into the show. It definitely deserves the respect it has received the past few years.
3) Damages – The first season of this riveting show provided intense drama for the audience. The cast delivers a stellar performance led by Glen Close. It’s an edge of your seat drama that takes the audience on a roller coaster ride and delivers another quality show for FX. I’m crossing my fingers the second season lives up to the high bar the first season has set.
4) Smallville – As this show starts to come to an end this season has shown why Superman is an American icon. The show has had its high and its low seasons but I must say I am proud that this series is starting to develop into the superman hero we all know about. It is corny but entertaining, the costumes can be a little over the top at times but the series is written well.
5) Brothers & Sisters – This show has delivered another brilliant season. This show reminds me of a fine wine, it gets better with age. Most shows seem to have a slump but I personally believe that each season is better than the previous. Sally Fields is the mother of a slightly dysfunctional but overwhelmingly familiar family. I believe most families can relate to this television family minus the millions of dollars of cash lying around, it seems their problems seem to be more real and emotional for the audience. It provides good drama with a little bit of Maury mixed in while trying to decide who is the newest addition to this emotionally close family.
Honorable Mention:
1) Lost – This show seems to have suffered a little bit of the wrath I tend to give Will Smith at times. It seems to be over-rated at times but I believe last season stepped its game back up to another level. As the end of this series approaches I believe this show will answer a lot of questions loyal viewers have stuck around for the passed couple of years. I give ABC a thumb’s up for being creative and providing more original programming than the same old crime shows CBS seems to be dishing out every year.
Disappointment:
1) Grey’s Anatomy – This show sky rocketed after the first season but the ongoing drama on the set mixed in with bad writing makes viewers hope the end to this show is near. One character is sleeping with a dead guy while the new residents are performing amateur surgeries on each other. I’m tired of hearing about this show and all the feuds. Take a hint from E.R. and retire Dr. Grey, although you may not have had the years ER has but you do have the recognition.
Hope you enjoyed this blog, please stay tuned for more to come.
